Nintendo apologizes to customers following announcement of Switch 2 price hike

The past week has been an emotional rollercoaster for Nintendo. We went from the highly anticipated announcement of Star Fox on Switch 2 to the announcement of a price increase for the console starting September 1, 2026. It will then be sold for €499.99 / $499.99.

During a recent conference call with investors, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa apologized to customers. He also promised a robust lineup of games for the coming weeks.

« We sincerely apologize to our customers for the considerable inconvenience and trouble this will cause.

While we wanted to prioritize a wide adoption, it was challenging to bear the rising costs over a long period. The new pricing does not fully account for all cost increases. »

In addition to the newly announced Star Fox remake, the Switch 2 will launch Splatoon Raiders on July 23 and Pokémon Wind and Waves in 2027. Among the rumors, we can note one regarding a remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time or even a new Mario 3D title for next year.
