Nintendo plans for the 40th anniversary of Super Mario is starting off strong, with the Nintendo Direct not only announcing the sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie, but multiple new games as well.

The sequel to the Mario movie will be inspired by Super Mario Galaxy, and to coincide with that both Super Mario Galaxy games will be coming to Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.

And what’s most surprising is that they’re coming out pretty soon, on October 2, 2025. The two games will be together physically as a dual pack, as well as individually on the Nintendo eShop.

But that’s not all, as there will be two brand-new amiibo for the releases, of Mario and Rosalina. The amiibo won’t release until April 2, 2026, however.

Both Super Mario Galaxy Games Are Coming to Switch, Mario Tennis Fever Announced

That’s already a ton of announcements, but if you can believe it, Nintendo had three other Mario-centric games to share.

First up is a new entry in Mario’s sports escapades, with Mario Tennis Fever. The game sports a roster of over 30 playable characters, the largest in the series, and a host of new elements for its Tennis matches. But perhaps most interesting is a story mode where the entire cast gets turned into babies on a mysterious island. Mario Tennis Fever launches on February 12, 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2.

Next, a Nintendo Switch 2 edition of Super Mario Bros. Wonder was announced, adding on a new co-op centric expansion called Meetup in Bellabel. This area will enhance the ways you can play with your friends. This is on top of visual and performance enhancements.

The final Mario announcement was a new game featuring Yoshi – not quite a new Yoshi’s island, but pretty close.

Yoshi and the Mysterious Book has an adorable storybook-esque art style, letting you turn through the pages of a mysterious tome while exploring the secrets of Yoshi’s home. It’s seems to be a pretty classic 2D platformer, in the vein of Yoshi’s starring games. Yoshi and the Mysterious Book launches Spring 2026 on Nintendo Switch 2.

It’s certainly possible that Nintendo has even more to share for Mario’s 40th anniversary, but for now, it looks like fans of the mustachioed plumber are going to have plenty to keep them busy.
