New Sci-Fi Samurai Game Looks Like Ghost Of Yotei In Space

New Sci-Fi Samurai Game Looks Like Ghost Of Yotei In Space

One of the big games revealed during today’s PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted livestream was SOL Shogunate, a third-person action-RPG in which players take on the role of an outlaw ronin out for revenge against the rival clan that massacred her noble samurai family. The twist here is that this adventure doesn’t take place in feudal Japan; the story unfolds against the backdrop of a colonized solar system ruled by a powerful shogunate.

As the space-samurai Yuzuki, players will challenge the shogunate’s grip on power, facing off against their forces on Earth’s moon. The gleaming lunar metropolis might look like a cosmic marvel with its space elevators, bullet trains, and opulent districts, but beneath the surface, there lies an oppressed population of workers who toil and die in service to the ruling class above them.

Fortunately, Yuzuki has several skills to draw upon as she fuses expert swordsmanship abilities with sci-fi powers. Players can infuse their weapons with elemental effects to gain an edge in battle, and collecting genetic material will unlock unique skills such as bio-ceramic skin and enhanced vision.

The debut game from developer Chaos Manufacturing, the studio says players can expect “fluid, spectacle-driven combat,” and each boss fight has been designed to feel like a “dazzlingly violent music video” that dynamically changes to reflect the intensity of the fight. “We’re fusing combat, story, and music into an experience that we hope players will find thrilling, emotional, and unforgettable,” CEO of Chaos Manufacturing Guy Costantini said in a press release. Japanese rock band AliA will be one of the acts featured in SOL Shogunate, with more to be revealed in the future.

SOL Shogunate doesn’t have a release date yet, but the game can be wishlisted on Steam. You can watch the reveal trailer below, as well as check out several pieces of exclusive concept art and screenshots showing off several of the lunar locations that Yuzuki will visit.
