New PlayStation 30th Anniversary Event Isn’t What We Expected

PlayStation 30th anniversary

Sony Interactive Entertainment has recently revealed its next event, celebrating PlayStation’s 30th anniversary. However, it’s not quite what we expected for the momentous occasion.

In a recent PlayStation Blog post, Sony is keeping the party going by asking PlayStation players to share their favorite memories of the long-running gaming brand. From receiving a PS1 on Christmas Day back in 1994 to holding the PS5’s DualSense for the first time, Sony wants to hear players’ stories from the last 30 years.

How do you participate in the new PlayStation 30th Anniversary event?

From now until September 23, PlayStation players can partake in the event by sharing pictures or videos of their favorite PlayStation memories on X (formerly Twitter) or Instagram. When sharing those memories on these platforms, players should use the hashtag #PlayStation30Memories, as well as share their name, where they are from, and the story behind the shared image or video.

So, why should players do this? Well, once the submission window closes, Sony will comb through these memories and potentially include them in its upcoming PlayStation 30th Anniversary highlight reel. When released, it will be shared on the PlayStation Blog and the company’s social channels.

Sony has been celebrating PlayStation’s 30th Anniversary for about a year now. Announced last September, the company revealed several ways it would be commemorating its impressive milestone. Initially, this included new content for Astro Bot, a free version of Gran Turismo, and making its soundtracks more widely available.

One of the more exciting announcements was the PS5 30th Anniversary console, which featured the current-gen console in the PS1’s iconic grey colorway. Despite Sony attempting to combat scalpers, the console and accessories sold out quickly.

The PlayStation 30th Anniversary also introduced the first PS5 themes, but they were initially available for a limited time. However, they were so popular that Sony made them a permanent addition in a PS5 update back in April.
