Nacon Connect showcase delayed while they navigate insolvency crisis

Having filed for insolvency last week, French publisher Nacon has today postponed the Nacon Connect showcase while the company navigates the crisis that they have found themselves in.

Previously scheduled for 4th March, the Nacon Connect stream is now expected to take place in May.

In a press release, the company says:

“In order to ensure that our future announcements have the impact they deserve, NACON has made the strategic decision to postpone the next edition of its NACON Connect, initially scheduled for March 4th. Faced with a difficult economic environment for the company, we are choosing to focus our resources on upcoming releases and the development of our current games. This period will allow us to polish our projects and prepare for a new NACON Connect to be held in May, which will showcase the work of our studios in the best possible way. Until then, numerous communications will take place to support games such as GreedFall: The Dying World, Dragonkin: The Banished, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, and many others.”

It’s currently unclear how the launches of those three named games – GreedFall: The Dying World, Dragonkin: The Banished, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss – will be affected. All three are scheduled to be released within the next two months, and the implication here is that these will go ahead. Their release dates are as follows:

  • GreedFall: The Dying World – PC, PS5, XSX|S – 12th March
  • Dragonkin: The Banished – PC – 16th March | PS5, XSX|S – 19th March
  • Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss – PC, PS5, XSX|S – 16th April

No doubt all three would have featured in the Nacon Connect to highlight their imminent release, so we can expect launch trailers to be dropped separately.

But back to the situation at hand. Nacon filed for insolvency and suspended trading of the company’s shares last week, as majority stakeholder and parent company, Bigben Interactive defaulted on a €43 million bond repayment that has affected its subsidiary. Nacon is seeking new finances, filing for insolvency with the courts and looking for a reorganisation to continue operating, while Bigben is also filing in the courts for an “amicable conciliation procedure” to enter into discussions with its creditors and restructure its debts.

We hope that these companies are able to come back from the brink, both for their impact with much needed variety of games that they offer, but more importantly for the many subsidiary game studios, the employees and the jobs that would be lost.
