Multiplayer could become free on Xbox

We can probably expect just about anything from Xbox right now. The company’s policy is currently undergoing a major overhaul under the leadership of Asha Sharma.

Following the price cuts for the Ultimate and PC plans, Game Pass could be in for another change. In fact, Jez Corden, a journalist at Windows Central, hinted on X that a subscription to the service might soon no longer be required to play online. Microsoft has, however, always required players to pay to enjoy multiplayer.

This new policy could be part of the launch of the Project Helix console. This console is expected to give us access to our Steam and Epic Games Store libraries. Since online play is free on these platforms, Microsoft would likely need to offer a free model to avoid creating disparities within this new Xbox ecosystem.
