Mixtape Review: Annapurna may have delivered one of the games of the year

It wasn’t exactly a highly anticipated release, but Mixtape might just carve out a spot for itself in the GOTY race. This narrative adventure, which lets players relive the memories of three high school students, launched this Thursday, May 7, 2026, on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

Mixtape was so unexpected that very few reviews have been published as of this writing. However, early feedback is unanimous, with an OpenCritic average of 94% based on 18 reviews from the specialized press. On Metacritic, 12 reviews have been recorded for the PS5 version, yielding a score of 88%. The PC version stands at 91% with only four reviews.

As such, Mixtape is praised for its masterful storytelling, which evokes a genuine sense of nostalgia. The music is also very well done and perfectly tailored to each scene. The storyline is clearly intended to be very touching.

Only a few flaws remain, such as dialogue that sometimes feels too β€œteenage” (which won’t appeal to everyone) or a complete lack of difficulty.
