Metro 2039 announced, full reveal on Thursday

Metro 2039 announced, full reveal on Thursday

Deep Silver and 4A Games have announced the next title in the Metro series, Metro 2039. It will be revealed in full during this Thursday’s Xbox Games Showcase 2026.

No other details have been announced for the game but I am sure what we all need is the reminder that nuclear war is just a button push away, absolutely nothing like real life.

Metro 2033 was the first title in the series, released in 2010. Set twenty years after the war, protagonist  Artyom leaves the safety of the Metro to destroy the ‘Dark One’ alien hive. The tables are turned for Metro: Last Light, which was released in 2013, where Artyom  is plagued with guilt for destroying the aliens and ends up teaming up with them to repel an assault.

The third title, Metro Exodus, arrived in 2019 and expanded the world outside, while 2024’s Metro Awakening, a VR exclusive, was a prequel feature a different protagonist, Serdar, and things get very weird and involve Genghis Khan.

In the announcement post for the Xbox Showcase, Microsoft’s Joe Skrebels wrote, “We’ll begin the day with our annual Xbox Games Showcase, including first gameplay looks and huge news on upcoming titles from our first-party studios across the Xbox family, as well as our third-party partners around the globe – from the biggest franchises to soon-to-be indie darlings. Immediately following Showcase, we’ll go even deeper on one of the games coming later this year, directly from the team behind the Gears franchise, The Coalition Studio. Gears of War: E-Day Direct will take players into the start of Emergence Day, offering new details, gameplay and insights about the hugely anticipated origin story to the Gears of War saga.”

You will be able to watch the Showcase and E-Day Direct on the official Xbox YouTube, Twitch, and Facebook pages. The specific times that both the Xbox Games Showcase 2026 and Gears of War: E-Day Direct can be watched are:

  • PDT: June 7, 10am

  • BST: June 7, 6pm
  • CEST: June 7, 7pm
