Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater – 10 Amazing PC Mods

Metal Gear Solid: Delta Snake Eater – 10 Amazing PC Mods

Since Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been out for quite a while, we thought it would be a good idea to bring some of its best mods to those of you playing on a PC. While mods can add interesting wrinkles to any game thanks to the creativity of their creators, the ones we’re about to show you reflect years of passion for a title that deserves it.

Although the remake has been doing quite well thanks to its balance between a faithful recreation of the original title and a few much-needed quality of life changes that help it better align with current-gen features, there’s certainly room for a few creative tweaks that improve the experience.

With the fanbase that Snake Eater has enjoyed in the many years since its original release, it’s no surprise that the game has attracted modders looking to bring a few excellent tweaks to the table, allowing you to take on Naked Snake’s origin story with a few additions that could soon become your favorite way to play the game. Some of them even elevate the experience in our eyes, too!

While console players are going to have to sit this one out, let’s hope that Konami adds official mod support to its remake. But for now, it’s time to dive into some of the best mods for Delta: Snake Eater.

1. Camera Tweaks

Considering the remake’s excellent visual overhaul, improving the field of view that you’re subject to as you play through the legendary adventure that started it all could be quite the advantage for Naked Snake.

This mod lets you do just that, bringing the camera a tad further away from you as you sneak around the game’s many biomes. If you’re wondering how that improves the experience, you probably haven’t been spotted by an enemy simply because you couldn’t see them, thanks to the game’s over-the-shoulder camera limiting your peripheral vision.

Camera Tweaks lets you mitigate those risks, improving how much of the world you see with the added bonus of improvements to your gun scope, making it a very useful mod for those of you looking to get an edge in the game’s stealth sections.

2. Laser Sights

For those of you who like to shoot first and ask questions later, having a bit of help with your aiming could be just what you’re looking for. This mod adds laser sights to all your weapons and is quite accurate in terms of how it traces projectile trajectories.

It’s perfect for those of you who would prefer to take on a more aggressive approach if you’re looking to just experience the story with the visual overhaul, and could also make a few intense fights quite easier. While we would personally not recommend rushing this incredible tale if you’re a newcomer, it helps to know that the option’s there for you to use.

3. Snake’s Classic Mullet Hair

Big Boss has always been a good-looking fella, and this mod just lets you add a bit of extra oomph to his iconic look in the game. It replaces his more traditional hairstyles with the mullet that we’ve come to know and love over the years. It works with both the bandana look and the one without it, letting you take your enemies down in style!

The mullet comes with its own unique physics, a nice touch considering the remake’s excellent, realistic visuals!

4. Disable Low Health Visual Effect

Although Konami’s remake does bring some interesting changes to the table, the visual reminder that you’re low on health could be an annoyance, considering that you need to be seeing as much as you can of the world in a game that’s quite strict with its stealth.

Having the edges of your screen blurred out with a red effect could mean the difference between staying hidden and getting spotted if you’re unlucky enough to have an enemy present in that vignette. This mod removes that risk altogether and is one you might want to consider if you prefer to get all your information from the in-game HUD.

5. Show Some Skin

One of the most striking improvements that Konami implemented in its remake of the original title is the fact that any injuries Naked Snake takes in battle continue to be reminders of your mistakes via the wound system. However, it does come with the limitation that your clothes do not showcase injuries, as switching camos could effectively remove the damage.

However, this mod is a great way to ensure that you don’t forget the lessons you learn, as Naked Snake’s forearms are now exposed and bear morbid reminders of the personal cost of his undertaking to bring down The Boss and Colonel Volgin.

6. Fingerless Gloves

If you’re a long-term Metal Gear fan, you’re already familiar with the grandiose continuity that the franchise has earned a reputation for. If this is your first time playing, know that Naked Snake is a precursor to several iconic characters whose origins we won’t spoil for you with the hope that Konami decides to bring other iconic titles from the franchise to your current-gen systems.

Solid Snake is among the franchise’s iconic characters, and this mod brings a part of his own look to Naked Snake via fingerless gloves, which do make a lot more sense for a character who relies on his senses quite a bit in the game. It’s a little bit of foreshadowing that you can add on to an already intense story if you so choose.

7. Body Hair

If you’re put off by Naked Snake’s lack of body hair in MGS3, look no further than this mod, which makes an already masculine presence all the more macho. Although its utility does not go beyond a cosmetic touch, it could be a layer of realism for those of you who picture Naked Snake as a soldier who isn’t too focused on personal grooming in the face of the threats he faces.

Be warned that the mod might not work in all situations, which could lead to some rather amusing discrepancies during your time in Russia.

8. Ocelot Red to Green Outfit

Want to add a bit of realistic flair to that iconic fight with Ocelot? This mod switches out his red outfit for a green one, a welcome change that could make your battle against him in the Bolshaya Past region a tad harder, thanks to the area’s greenery, which could make him hard to spot.

We’ve personally felt that a character as clever as Ocelot would seek every advantage he could, especially if he was planning on taking on an adversary as capable as Naked Snake. Wearing a green outfit in a forest would indeed make him harder to keep track of, and this mod could be a subtle showcase of his intelligence and tenacity, even if it doesn’t add any other useful tweaks to the gameplay loop.

9. Classic KLMK GRU

It’s not just Naked Snake and other characters from the main cast receiving visual changes, as some modders have also focused on the bread and butter of Colonel Volgin’s army. This mod takes the new changes to the GRU Soldiers’ uniforms in the remake back to their original color schemes, allowing for a more nostalgic experience while continuing to enjoy the improved visuals in other areas.

While it may not seem like a big deal to most of you, the fact that it’s even there is a testament to how the original release continues to hold sway over its fans, and as such, belongs on this list of mods, considering just how many of the GRU’s employees you’re likely to encounter during your adventure.

10. Enable Ray Tracing – Hardware Level

If you want to make your experience with the remake’s visuals even better, this mod is going to make your day. Those of you with a high-end system could use this one to add even more details to the lighting, the foliage in forest settings and more details on each character to make the visual splendor of Delta: Snake Eater stand out even more than it does after Konami’s improvements.

It’s a great addition to your playthrough and is one that you should try out if you’re a fan of realistic, immersive graphics in your games.

And that’s a wrap on our recommendations for mods you can use in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater. While these ones are a good starting point, we would recommend browsing through the extensive list of mods currently available and finding ones that appeal to you. It’s a title that you should enjoy any way you like, and the game’s fanbase has certainly taken things up a notch.

Now all that remains is for Konami to hopefully bring mod support to consoles, but the chances of that happening are quite weak.
