Marvel’s Wolverine will be more linear than the Spider-Man games

As we saw during the State of Play, Marvel’s Wolverine will feature an extremely fast-paced, highly violent, and likely relatively linear adventure. This was confirmed by Mike Daly, the game’s director, in an interview with Eurogamer.

So, don’t expect an open world like the ones from the Insomniac Games’ Marvel’s Spider-Man titles. While some environments will be larger than others, Marvel’s Wolverine will offer a more limited experience in terms of the freedom granted to the player.

“Logan is a character who’s constantly being driven forward, either by some urgent need, a sense of duty, or trying to seek out things in his past. He doesn’t really get anchored into one space and wander around. One of the things I feel like we’ve done a good job with is the missions in the story have this almost comic book kind of pacing of action and intrigue that constantly moves forward at a fast pace.

We wanted variety in our levels. o some of them have microcosms of that experience, where it is a little bit more open and you have some agency, but there’s not a home base that you keep returning to to try and complete everything there. It is really a story with a lot of forward momentum.

Thus, the levels will be much more linear, but with a good dose of variety. Marvel’s Wolverine will also be more grounded in reality, unlike Spider-Man, who can swing through the air on his webs.
