Lord of the Rings RPG Teased By Kingdom Come Deliverance Devs

The Kingdom Come Deliverance team wants to be known as an “RPG powerhouse” moving forward, and Warhorse Studios’ next RPG might just cement it as one, especially if you’re a Tolkien fan…

Last Friday Kingdom Come Deliverance II won best narrative at the 2026 BAFTA Game Awards, a well-deserved victory after failing to take any trophies at 2025’s TGAs.

Kingdom Come Deliverance II was a sequel that exceeded all expectations, so while you’d expect Kingdom Come Deliverance III to be next on Warhorse’ to-do list, the devs seemingly have something else in mind…

Kingdom Come Deliverance Devs Tease That Rumoured Lord of the Rings Game

It’s been a long-standing rumour that an open-world Lord of the Rings RPG is currently in active development.

Like what Hogwarts Legacy did for Harry Potter games, this RPG aims to be one of the most realistic depictions of Middle-earth we’ve ever seen in a video game, reportedly giving players free-roam over some of the trilogy’s most iconic locations.

Some of the latest rumours claim Warhorse Studios is the team behind the unannounced title, and while Communications Director Tobias Stolz-Zwilling and Creative Director Prokop Jirsa didn’t out-and-out confirm its existence, they were quick to tease something that’s on the way.

Speaking with GAMINGbible shortly after winning best narrative, Stolz-Zwilling and Jirsa were asked what’s next for Warhorse.

“We can’t give you specific details” began Jirsa, “but yes, great things are coming.”

Stolz-Zwilling then stated: “One thing we definitely will do and will do forever, hopefully, is RPGs. We want to establish Warhorse as some kind of RPG powerhouse.

“Whatever comes next should be again a nitty gritty RPG, we see ourselves there.”

Jirsa then interjected to say “Something is already in the works,” to which Stolz-Zwilling followed up with “Almost there, but not yet.”

Again while this didn’t confirm that Warhorse is working on a secret Lord of the Rings RPG the timing couldn’t be any better…

What Do We Know About The Lord Of The Rings RPG?

As said before the latest insider claims reckon it’s going to be what Hogwarts Legacy is for Harry Potter, but with Lord of the Rings.

It’s the right time to push for a new game too as The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum releases in cinemas next year, and another Lord of the Rings film is in the works with superfan Stephen Colbert.

Exact details have been kept closely under wraps but this new RPG is said to be fully open-world, and given how expansive Middle-earth is in the source material we could very well have a Crimson Desert successor on our hands.

Whether the team behind Kingdom Come Deliverance is part of that plan remains to be seen but this cryptic teaser from the 2026 BAFTA Game Awards feels like a compelling clue.

That said those hoping for another Kingdom Come game shouldn’t feel too dismayed, that’s more than likely on the way too, it might just be a slightly longer wait.
