Us Lord of the Rings fans have been pretty lucky with our video game adaptations over the years with even the direct movie tie-ins (so often a downfall for video games) doing a spectacular job of bringing the world of Middle-earth to life.
Shadow of Mordor and Shadow of War are probably the examples that spring to mind most readily in recent times, but there are other games that have been just as impressive.
One of those is The Lord of the Rings: Return to Moria, a survival crafting game set after the events of the films, in which you take on the role of a dwarf as part of an older Gimli’s company. From there it’s your job to take and rebuild the fabled kingdom of Moria and remove the threat of the goblin enemies within.
It’s one of the better survival crafting games of the last few years and well worth a try if you’re into the genre or The Lord of the Rings more generally. In even better news the developer has just dropped a full DLC as well as a free update for players to download right now.

The Durin’s Folk DLC Changes Everything
If you’ve played the game for any length of time, you’ll know the game centers on your character, who has been separated from the group, within the long dark of Moria
It’s your job to get the main door open to let the company in so you can really rebuild, though you’ll have to work through the whole game first before you’re able to do so.
As such, it felt like a little bit of a shame that you couldn’t really see what comes next, which is where the Durin’s Folk DLC comes into play.
In the developer’s own words: “The Dimrill Gate is open but what’s next for you, Dwarf? As Lord of Moria, it is now your responsibility to bring Khazad-dûm back to its former glory and repopulate it. That means only one thing – Durin’s folk are coming back to Moria!
:In this expansion, NPCs join you and your Company to establish trade and help you rebuild Moria, while you embark on Expeditions to uncover even greater treasures and long-buried secrets…”
The scope of the expansion is pretty crazy, with NPC’s able to help you build fight and explore.
You can even explore outside of the mountain for the first time, with new tasks and dangers around every corner.
In terms of the free update, it’s also a pretty big one. It makes major changes to the map, splitting it into layers, with a ton of other quality-of-life improvements, as well as new customisation options and bug fixes.
It’s also now possible to get rid of those horrible dirt piles that are ruining the aesthetic of your home base.
It’s all out now, so if you’re looking to jump in, this seems like as good a time as any!

It’s exciting to see such a beloved franchise continue to grow with new content! Major expansions and updates really keep the gaming experience fresh for fans. Looking forward to diving into this new adventure!
