LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight “Distills Decades of Fantastic Storytelling,” Says TT Games

TT Games has spoken extensively about ensuring that LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is the “definitive” story of Batman, even as it tells a standalone story. In a new Behind the Scenes video, DC Studios co-CEO James Gunn, DC president Jim Lee, and TT Games strategic director Johnathan Smith discuss drawing on the character’s history.

As Smith notes, the goal is to distill “decades of fantastic storytelling to really immerse players in the experience of becoming the Dark Knight.” Batman’s tone and nature evolved over the decades, and this meant a “lot of research” and references from The Batman and The Dark Knight trilogy to the animated series and even Adam West’s Batman series.

“One of the many great things about LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight,” says Gunn, “Is that it manifests all these different elements of Batman that we’ve loved over the years. People can experience this character maybe as fully as they ever have.”

The narrative will sound familiar to longtime fans: Bruce Wayne, as a child, ventures to the movies with his parents, where tragedy strikes. He would go on to train with the League of Shadows before returning to Gotham. The main difference from Batman Begins is that he builds up a “new family of crime-fighting allies,” resulting in seven total playable characters (including Commissioner Gordon).

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight launches in 2026 for Nintendo Switch 2, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. Check out some more extensive gameplay here.
