The announcement of the Steam Machine’s prices wasn’t exactly well-received. Pretty much everyone considers the console too expensive. Its performance also leaves something to be desired when running very resource-intensive games.
As a result, the French retailer LDLC, which specializes in high-tech products and computer hardware, has turned the situation into a joke. To counter the Steam Machine, the retailer has unveiled its Stim Machine. It’s available for €999.99 as a kit or €1,039.99 pre-built—the same price as a 512 GB Steam Machine.
This Stim Machine is designed to be significantly more powerful. A comparison chart highlights its superiority, notably featuring an RX 9060 XT – RDNA 4 GPU, a Ryzen 5 8400F CPU, and 16 GB of 5600 MHz DDR5 RAM (expandable up to 128 GB). It also includes a replaceable 500 GB SSD and two additional SATA slots.
However, the Stim Machine does not come with Windows, and SteamOS must be installed by following a tutorial, so it isn’t truly ready to use out of the box.
