The success of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has spurred Konami to remake more games in the series, as they quiz fans on the best option.

Despite being a pretty safe remake, that didn’t change much about the original, Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater has been a notable success, with one million copies sold within a day of release.

The positive reception is perhaps surprising, considering the remake was developed without series’ creator Hideo Kojima, but with one win in their pocket, the big question is whether Konami pursues more remakes or tries to helm a brand new entry.

While there’s no news on the latter, the developer has dropped a significant hint that they are looking to remake more games in the series.

This comes via a ā€˜post-viewing survey’ for Konami’s upcoming Metal Gear Solid Production Hotline livestream at the Tokyo Game Show. The show isn’t set to air until Thursday, September 25, but Konami has already put the survey live.

Along with questions around the upcoming Fox Hunt multiplayer mode for Metal Gear Solid Delta, Konami explicitly asks what Metal Gear game fans would like to see receive the remake treatment next.

There are eight options to choose from, ranging from obvious contenders like Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, to less obvious choices like 1987’s Metal Gear and Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes, which was a prologue to 2015’s Metal Gear Solid 5: Phantom Pain.

Others on the list include Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and a box for ā€˜others’ – so Konami is seemingly open to all ideas.

It’s difficult to gauge how much fan surveys like this influence the final decision, but it’s hard to imagine the next remake wouldn’t be either the original Metal Gear Solid or Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty. The former makes the most sense as the most iconic game in the series, but it would require far more work to modernise in comparison to the sequel.

The official reasoning for starting with Metal Gear Solid 3 is that it’s chronologically the first entry in the series (and also one of the most critically acclaimed). If Konami sticks with that reasoning the next game should be PSP title Peace Walker, which will not only need a lot of work but is much less well known than most of the others.

Elsewhere on the survey, Konami reaffirms the existence of a Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2, as part of a question around what fans would like to see in future broadcasts.

The first volume, released in 2023, contained ports of Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, Metal Gear Solid, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater. Konami has yet to announce anything about the inevitable volume two, although it’s expected to feature Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns Of The Patriots and Peace Walker.

We could see some news around the future of Metal Gear Solid at the next State Of Play presentation, which is rumoured to air later this week.
