According to a report by KTV News, a 27-year-old Japanese man was arrested after threatening to blow up Nintendo’s headquarters, located in Kyoto.
He sent letters to the Japanese company threatening to use explosives to blow up the building. Nintendo immediately contacted law enforcement upon receiving the first letters last March, and the area was thoroughly searched, but nothing was found. The man has admitted to the acts, but police are reportedly still investigating his motives at this time.
Furthermore, this is not the first time Nintendo has faced threats of this kind. In April 2024, a man who had sent dozens of threats via the contact form on the official website was arrested and sentenced to a one-year suspended prison term.
He threatened to kill everyone who had “brought such a shitty game into the world”, to quote his exact words, without specifying which game he was referring to. As a safety precaution, both the Nintendo Live 2024 event and the Splatoon finals were cancelled.
