If you’re a fan of Stardew Valley and you’re yet to try Discounty, I heartily recommend you go about changing that.
And if you’re burnt out on cosy sims, worry not. Discounty is unlike anything out there on the market.
Developed by Crinkle Cut Games, Discounty first landed last year.
It combines life sim and management elements with players running their own discount supermarket.
You’ll partake in much of the usual cosy fare, decorating and befriending NPCs, but instead of farming and gardening, here, you’ll be stocking shelves and acquiring goods.
“Step into the quirky harbour town of Blomkest, where your aunt has entrusted you with managing its only supermarket,” the synopsis begins.
“Design and organise your shop, manage stock levels, work the checkout, and strike trade deals.

“Build relationships with the charming locals, and grow your business empire while navigating community dynamics.
“Use every tool at your disposal to expand your business, but be mindful: rapid growth might ruffle a few feathers in this tight-knit community.”
Devs finish by asking the question, “Will you pursue endless profits, or find a way to benefit everyone in Blomkest?”
Discounty is available across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch.
Stardew Valley players will feel right at home given the title’s pixel art aesthetics, plus the game shouldn’t set you back anymore than its retail price of £16.99 – although it’s often on sale.
The reason that I bring Discounty to your attention today is because it’s dropped a major free update.
The People Or Profit DLC Adds More Story, New Mechanics, And New Items
People or Profit is a hefty free expansion that’s available on Steam right now with plans to bring it to console in July.
It’s the game’s biggest update to date and adds a brand-new final story chapter as well as three new endings.
It also introduces new town restoration projects, new characters and trade deals, self-checkouts and online orders, 35 new items, random shop events, new housing upgrades, and more.
I’m intrigued to see how self-checkouts and online orders affect the gameplay as Discounty has a nostalgic feel to it at the moment with its 00s supermarket set-up.
“Will you help Blomkest thrive as a sustainable community or chase endless profits at any cost? Every business owner must eventually answer one important question: People or Profit?” the expansion asks.
It’s clearly going down well with Steam users with the game boasting a ‘Very Positive’ 83% score for recent reviews.
“Big fan of this game. It’s laid-back, gorgeous pixel art, and fun game loop. They recently added a free update that includes more content,” said one player.
Another added, “Having bought and played it since the People or Profit update, I think this game is VERY much worth the price now and has been a very satisfying experience both narratively and gameplay-wise!”
There’s no better time to give Discounty a try.
