Highguard: Tencent has reportedly withdrawn its funding for Highguard

Several days ago, we learned that Tencent was the main investor behind Highguard. Unfortunately, following the game’s failed launch and numerous controversies surrounding it, the Chinese firm has reportedly distanced itself from the project.

In an article published on Bloomberg, Jason Schreier stated that Tencent has withdrawn its funding from Wildlight Entertainment. This explains the recent layoffs at the studio. Currently, the studio has fewer than 20 developers. The announcement regarding the funding issues was reportedly made during an internal meeting on February 11, two weeks after the release of Highguard.

For the moment, Tencent has neither confirmed nor denied this information.

It’s always tough to hear about funding changes, especially for projects like Highguard that have potential. Hopefully, this will lead to new opportunities or solutions for the team involved. Looking forward to seeing how things develop!
