Earlier this year, Halo Studios and Microsoft did a very rare thing in the video game industry by providing permission for a fan-made Halo-inspired game, Spartan Survivors, to go forward. Now, Spartan Survivors has made the leap to Steam, as shared in an announcement by developer Bathrobe.
BREAKING: Spartan Survivors is officially available on Steam!
The day has finally come and you can download it right now, for free obviously.
Play it, share it, and most importantly: have fun with it! 🔥 pic.twitter.com/keOqqX2iux— Spartan Survivors (@SpartnSurvivors) October 28, 2025
Spartan Survivors is free on Steam, and that was one of the conditions that was placed on the project when Halo Studios signed off on it. One of the other requests was a legal disclaimer on the game’s store pages and in the credits, which specifically mentions that this project isn’t an official Halo game or affiliated with Halo Studios or Microsoft in any way.
Batrobe describes the game as a roguelike shooter that’s a cross between Halo and Bullet Heaven. Players assume the role of either Master Chief or the Arbiter as they take on hordes of Covenant and Flood enemies. The game is currently only available on PC, but an Xbox Series X|S port is planned for the future.
