The first Half-Life game is perhaps one of the most iconic FPS games ever, and it was absolutely groundbreaking for the time.
There are so many reasons to say why itās great that weād be here all day, but one thing in particular that I always loved about it was the ability to see the events of the game from different perspectives thanks to the two expansions, Blue Shift and Opposing Force.
After all, Gordon Freeman wasnāt the only Black Mesa survivor, so itās interesting to get more context from the POV of other characters that were also present.
While itās not officially made by Valve, Half-Life: Insecure is a fan-made campaign that fulfils the same role by offering you an alternate perspective on the Black Mesa incident.
What is Half-Life: Insecure?
The mod, created by Half-Life modder MPS, consists of six chapters played from the perspective of security officer Andrew Cooper. After being trapped inside the Black Mesa facility following the Resonance Cascade, your goal is to escape via any means necessary.
The game integrates content from the other Half-Life games, particularly Opposing Force, with MPS also providing custom content of their own.
It looks like itāll cross over with the base game as well at several points. For example, at one point you see two Black Ops soldiers carrying Freeman down a hallway, which is seen from his perspective in the Half-Life chapter āApprehensionā.
Half-Life: Insecure has been in development for a few years now, and takes around four hours to complete according to MPS. However, as they are the developer of the mod they obviously know the levels inside-and-out, so it might take you a little longer.
So, while itās still not terribly long, it should also provide you with some entertainment for an evening or two. And considering how impressive Half-Life mods tend to go, this absolutely seems like something every fan needs to have downloaded to their PC.
In order to play Half-Life: Insecure, youāll need to own a copy of the original Half-Life on Steam thatās been updated to the 25th Anniversary Edition.
