Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein monster design was inspired by C-3PO

Mike Hill has worked on creature makeup and prosthetics for Guillermo del Toro since 2017’s The Shape of Water, but the Oscar-winning filmmaker’s latest movie, Frankenstein, presented a new challenge. In his adaptation of the classic Mary Shelly novel, del Toro set out to reimagine the story’s central monster, ditching the neck bolts and crude assembly for a more thoughtful, and even beautiful design for star Jacob Elordi.

This is such an interesting insight into Guillermo del Toro’s creative process! It’s fascinating to see how inspiration can come from unexpected sources like C-3PO. Mike Hill’s work in creature makeup and prosthetics adds a unique dimension to del Toro’s films. Looking forward to seeing how this design evolves!
