Guild Wars Reforged Announced for December 3 Release

Arenanet revealed an enhanced version of its hit MMORPG Guild Wars from 2005. The new version, called Guild Wars Reforged, launches on December 3 with visual upgrades and quality-of-life improvements, plus a reasonable price that gives players access to the entirety of the game’s story and content.

Guild Wars Reforged Features

  • New low price

  • Steam Deck Verified (pending)

  • Support for XInput controllers (such as the Xbox Wireless Controller)

  • New quest tracking and direction system

  • On-screen control guide

  • UI enhanced with HD skill icons, larger text options, and quality-of-life improvements

  • Support for high DPI displays

  • New ambient occlusion, HD bloom, and antialiasing rendering enhancements

  • Rebuilt audio system with environmental effects (no hardware support needed)

The standout addition here is the full XInput controller support. It means you can finally play the game with a controller, something Guild Wars always had the potential for, unlike many MMOs. The sequel? That’s a different story, because inventory management in Guild Wars 2 is already rough even with a mouse and keyboard.

The best thing is that Guild Wars Reforged will be free to existing owners of Guild Wars.

I enjoyed the first game so much that the sequel, Guild Wars 2, is still one of my most-played titles after 13 years. The story of the first game and its unique combat system really stood out back in the day.

Guild Wars Reforged probably won’t pull in a huge wave of new players, but it will give veterans and returning fans a good reason to relive a fantastic MMO with new additions and improvements.

Guild Wars Reforged launches on December 3 for $19.99, including all major expansions.
