GTA 6 Rival Gameplay Has Us Impressed, Adds John Wick Inspired Combat

GTA 6 Rival Gameplay Has Us Impressed, Adds John Wick Inspired Combat

Grand Theft Auto VI isn’t exactly on the same playing field as much of the rest of the industry.

It isn’t just a video game. It’s a cultural behemoth.

Even still, that’s not to say that there aren’t other projects out there attempting to tap into the same vein as it.

Blackwood is one such game, a cinematic third-person shooter set to launch in Q3 of this year, so we’re talking July, August, or September.

Developed by AttritoM7 Productions, Blackwood places players into the shoes of a main character who’s most definitely leading two very different lives.

ā€œBy day, you run a DVD store in 2012 New York. By night, you’re a ruthless assassin,ā€ the synopsis teases.

There’s definitely a John Wick feel to this project with its sophisticated gunplay; you’ll notice that as soon as you see the title’s gameplay in action.

More generally though, Blackwood boasts much of what it is GTA VI hopefuls are after.

You can explore the streets of New York, engage in high-octane combat encounters, as well as enjoy plenty of sandbox slice-of-life activities.

Players will need to look after their apartment as well as that aforementioned DVD store, buying and shifting new stock.

Devs describe the game as having a ā€œMarvel-style narrative flairā€.

ā€œBLACKWOOD introduces a cast of flawed, human characters navigating a violent city full of secrets. Every ad, tattoo, and poster tells a story. Every mission pulls you deeper into a web of conspiracies and consequences.ā€

Alpha Gameplay Has Dropped, And Blackwood Is Shaping Up Nicely

It’s a game that you may not have heard of, but a ton of gameplay has now arrived courtesy of a recent alpha.

YouTuber MathChief has shared said gameplay online, and I personally am impressed by what I’m seeing.

Blackwood allows players to enact various takedowns which adds for action that feels both varied and realistic.

It’s also clear that the game’s world has been crafted with combat in mind. Making use of your surroundings seems to be the key to success.

As I said, we’re some way off the game’s full release, but I can confirm that Blackwood is coming to PC via Steam.

It has captured gamers’ attention.

ā€œLooks cool. Hope it’s a great game,ā€ wrote one viewer.

ā€œConcept seems really interesting,ā€ added another.

I simply hope Blackwood delivers on its promises. It looks great, but it could be another MindsEye.

You can wishlist the title on Steam if you do want to be kept up to date on its progress.
