GTA 6 preorders open up on June 25, and ahead of that date, developer Rockstar Games has confirmed one vital detail about the “physical” edition of its open-world adventure: it doesn’t exist in a technical sense. Instead, GTA 6 will include a download code inside the box. This means that the game will technically be sold physically, something that Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick spoke about earlier this year.
There is a benefit to this, as having the game teed up for a download to your PS5 or Xbox Series X|S will mean that you can start preloading GTA 6 on November 12–the same as digital preorders–a whole week before its November 19 release date. Rockstar also confirmed that all GTA 6 preorders and purchases before November 20 will get the Vintage Vice City Pack DLC, which according to the description, sounds like a set of ’80s-themed cosmetics. This is a “β―collection of items that flash back to when the neon burned brightest,” Rockstar says.
Alongside the standard edition of GTA 6, an Ultimate Edition has also been teased. With preorders going live this week, there’s also speculation that Rockstar may release the much-anticipated third trailer for GTA 6, but that might be unlikely if you look at the studio’s history with marketing for its previous games.
The other big question that people have relates to the price of GTA 6, and if it will herald a new age of AAA games costing $80 or more. November looks set to be focused entirely on GTA 6 as well, as the entire gaming industry appears to be working to avoid competing with Rockstar. September is already looking like a stacked month, and several more games are opting for a December or early 2027 launch instead.
