Next March, Gran Turismo 7 will celebrate its fourth anniversary. Since its debut in 1997, the franchise has sold over 100 million copies worldwide. So far, sales of the seventh installment are estimated at around 14.4 million units.
In an interview with GT Planet, Kazunori Yamauchi, the franchise’s producer, revealed that Gran Turismo 7 still has over two million active users every month. This quite the impressive figure, considering how long ago this installment was released.
โGran Turismo 7has been released for several years, but still, the active users are currently over 2 million people, and the new users are increasing. The status that Gran Turismo 7 is in now is probably the best of any Gran Turismo titles that weโve had in the past. Weโve never experienced this phenomenon before, and neither has PlayStation.”
Yamauchi attributes this success to the frequent addition of new content. The “Spec III” update rolled out in early December introduced a host of new features.
