This free Steam game might be considered to be a hybrid of God of War and Baldurâs Gate 3, which sounds pretty darn awesome to me.
This year marks the 20th anniversary of the God of War series, since it first launched on the PlayStation 2 in 2005 and has arguably gone on from strength to strength.
To celebrate the milestone, Sony and Santa Monica Studio recently announced a PlayStation 5 limited edition DualSense controller, which looks quite snazzy. That being said, I think weâd much prefer a sequel to God of War Ragnarök or a full remake of the original game, but I digress.
As for Baldur’s Gate 3, developed and published by Larian Studios, to say that this RPG, inspired by the classic Dungeons & Dragons, had taken the video game industry by storm when it launched in 2023, would be an understatement.
In our review of Baldurâs Gate 3, GAMINGbible alumni Ewan Moore said: âIn a year groaning under the weight of so many exemplary games, it is frankly astounding to me how much taller Baldurâs Gate 3 looms over the rest of the pack. Iâm not sure weâll ever see anything quite like it again.â
While there seems to be no new God of War or Baldurâs Gate on the horizon, hopefully, this upcoming RPG that you can try now on Steam might be worth your attention.
The game in question is called Norse: Oath of Blood, developed by Arctic Hazard and published by Tripwire Presents. Itâs a turn-based strategy game inspired by the Norwegian Viking age.
âTake on the role of Gunnar, a young warrior forced into exile after his father, Jarl Gripr, is killed by the ruthless Steinarr Far-Spear,â reads the synopsis of the game on Steam. âWith his home destroyed and his people scattered, youâll guide Gunnar as he rebuilds his settlement, forms strategic alliances, and leads his warband in a relentless pursuit of vengeance.â
âExpedition: Vikings vibe, love it already. Hopefully it won’t disappoint,â said Talematros in the comments section on the Norse: Oath of Blood announcement trailer.
âReminds me of Kingdom Come: Deliverance – hope it’s going to have a similar level of immersion, as I love the historical Viking age,â commented a hopeful FiikusMaximus.
Norse: Oath of Blood does not have a release date at the time of writing, but at least its playable demo is available now. You can also wishlist it on Steam to be notified of its launch. It’s also coming to the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

That’s a great point! The blend of action and narrative depth really sets this game apart, allowing players to engage in epic battles while also making meaningful choices that impact the story. Itâll be interesting to see how they balance both elements!
