Sucker Punch’s Ghost of Yotei is arguably the most exciting PS5 exclusive to release this year. With this being a Sony-published title there is an expected quality, as games like Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach have set a pretty high bar, especially in the visual department. Luckily, it does not disappoint, as the upcoming game seems to be a solid game to showcase the power of the PS5 and PS5 Pro.

What are some of the Ghost of Yotei PS5 Pro enhancements?

In a new video from Digital Foundry, they go through Ghost of Yotei‘s various graphics modes and test the performance of both the base PS5 and PS5 Pro. The latter is a bit more intriguing, as some developers have had issues with implementing its machine learning upscaling technology PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR), sometimes offering an inferior experience to its less powerful counterpart. Understandably, this has led PS5 Pro adopters to criticize Sony on the internet.

However, Sony published games typically take advantage of the PS5 Pro’s enhanced hardware successfully, and Ghost of Yotei is the latest example of that notion. For PS5 Pro users, they can choose from four different graphics modes (there are only three for base PS5 users), all of which seem to run as intended. Here are the four graphics options and the specs found from Digital Foundry’s tests:

  • Quality: Targets 30 FPS at 4K on PS5 Pro, but slightly lower than 4K on base PS5, no ray tracing.
  • Performance: Targets 60 FPS at 1440p on PS5 Pro, but closer to 1080p on base PS5, no ray tracing.
  • Ray Tracing: Capped at 30 FPS at around 1728p on PS5 Pro, and closer to 1440p on base PS5 with ray tracing.
  • Ray Tracing Pro (only on PS5 Pro): Targets 60 FPS at around 1080p with ray tracing.

Digital Foundry’s John Linneman says that each of the modes all works as intended, and there isn’t really a standout graphics option that people should choose. Which is a breath of fresh air considering the state of other recently released games touting PS5 Pro enhancements.
