Ghost of Yōtei Launch Week Sales Crossed 1.6 Million, Estimates Analyst

Sucker Punch Productions’ Ghost of Yōtei launched on October 2nd for PS5 after receiving extensive acclaim from critics, but Sony has yet to announce sales numbers. According to Rhys Elliott of Alinea Analytics, however, the open-world action-adventure is estimated to have sold over 1.6 million copies in its first week.

When factoring retailer sell-in, that total is over two million, resulting in about $100 million in revenue. While it’s a strong launch, it was noted to have sold slower than Ghost of Tsushima (over 2.4 million within three days). Discrepancies in install base between the PS5 and PS4, and the original benefiting from increased gaming interest due to the COVID-19 lockdown, were cited as potential reasons.

Regardless, Elliott reports that 30 percent of all Ghost of Yōtei players racked up 20+ hours of playtime in a single week. Ninety-three percent of players allegedly played Tsushima, with 30 percent experiencing Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice and 27 percent playing Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
