Coins are in the in-game currency of the open world in Ghost of Yotei, and you are going to need a significant cache of them in order to buy and upgrade gear. Having said that, Coins are expectedly difficult to amass, especially in the early game.

Bounties
Large windfalls of Coins can be earned by pursuing the targets of Bounties, who are often fairly straightforward to track down thanks to the helpful clues regarding their general location provided by the Bounty Board itself. Best of all, these become available at the very beginning of the game, as well as supply you with valuable gear.
NPC Rescue
As you journey across the map, watch out for random encounters involving civilians in need of rescue from persecutors. The Coins rewarded for lending your aid are almost, but not quite, as high as those from Bounties.
Charms And Resource Farms
Head to Yotei’s Shadow Hot Spring near Shikotsu Woods in the Yotei Grasslands. This requires completion of the ‘Old Trails’ Side Tale which occurs at The Old Stables nearby. Leap down off of the tiny plateau with the hot spring, to reach the lone slender tree near its base. On a stump nearby, you will find the utility minor Charm of Bountiful Harvest which increases the amount of wood, flowers, and plants gained when collecting them.
Next, head to a watch tower also situated in the Yotei Grasslands, just to the east of the previous location. The road heading south from Lake Shikotsu forks into two, one heading west and the other further south to Shirahige Falls. Just a short distance down the southern path is where the watch tower is located.
Dispose of the enemies here, and then find the Yotei’s Shadow Rose and Mushrooms spawn location near the camp. Once you pick either one up based on your needs, immediately Restart From Last Checkpoint via the pause menu. This will respawn you right back in the vicinity of either the flower or the mushroom, whichever one you picked up.
Merchants
Dispose of unwanted gear and excess resources by selling them off in exchange for Coins directly, or bartered for another resource which in turn can be exchanged for Coins. Resources themselves can be gathered or fished and then quickly flipped for medium quantities of money per run.
