Gears of War: E-Day Release Date Might Be Tied To An Upcoming WWE Event

A newly announced WWE event, sponsored by Gears of War: E-Day, is set for fall 2026 and may finally provide a definitive game release date.

Normally, WWE events tease their own WWE 2K games, among other video games and movie releases. During this past weekend’s live broadcast of WWE Backlash, it was revealed that their upcoming new event would be sponsored by Gears of War: E-Day. WWE Triplemania 34 was scheduled as a two-day event in collaboration with Mexican promotion Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide, taking place on September 11 and 13. Microsoft’s highly anticipated third-person shooter for Xbox Series X|S and PC still does not have a definitive release date.

On August 31 last year, tag team The Street Profits fought at the Clash in Paris event dressed as characters from Borderlands 4. The game was then released two weeks later. In a similar fashion, at this year’s WrestleMania, wrestler Penta dressed up as Shao Khan from Mortal Kombat for his entrance, just weeks before the release of the Mortal Kombat 2 movie in cinemas. Gears of War: E-Day is the main sponsor of Triplemania, and it is set to be held in mid-September.

So, putting two and two together, the game might be holding a late September or early October release date. This would also make sense to avoid crossing release paths with GTA 6, releasing in November. Other triple-A releases include The Blood of Dawnwalker and Marvel’s Wolverine. Everyone is scrambling around for Take-Two Interactive and Rockstar Games’ next monumental sequel game drop.

While Summer Games Fest is nearby on June 5th, we can most likely expect a slew of Microsoft and Xbox updates at this year’s Xbox Games Showcase taking place on June 7th. Reports already indicate that a Gears of War: E-Day Direct will take place after the Xbox-centric showcase. Based on what we know so far, Microsoft has already stated that Fable will be released in fall 2026. Additionally, they will also release Halo: Campaign Evolved and Minecraft Dungeons 2 later this year. None of these games has a solid release date yet.

“Immediately following Showcase, we’ll go even deeper on one of the games coming later this year, directly from the team behind the Gears franchise, The Coalition Studio,” Xbox said when it announced the showcase back in March. Gears of War: E-Day Direct will take players into the start of Emergence Day, offering new details, gameplay and insights about the hugely anticipated origin story to the Gears of War saga.”

Be sure to tune in to WWE Triplemania 34, which is coming to Ciudad de México and another city yet to be revealed. Again, the event will take place on September 11 and 13. This may be the best opportunity to learn the latest release date for the Gears of War game, if it is not revealed this summer.
