Several rumours have been floating around about the status of Toshihiro Nagoshi’s upcoming Gang of Dragons, but it may appear that the game may be getting shelved.
According to Gamespot, users on Reddit noticed the entire YouTube Account for Nagoshi Studios—the developer and publisher of Gang of Dragon—has been deleted, alongside every video relating to the game. While Gamespot claims the channel has been reinstated, personally searching YouTube for Nagoshi Studios or Gang of Dragon yields no results, outside the initial Game Awards reveal trailer (via The Game Awards channel).
This lends further credulity to the possibility that the game may be on the brink of cancellation after NetEase pulled funding from the studio as part of its company’s broader strategy to shrink game development activities. According to a Bloomberg report, NetEase supposedly made the decision to axe Gang of Dragon after the studio claimed it needed an additional ¥7 billion (approx. $44.4 million) in funding to get it to completion.
Initially revealed at The Game Awards 2025, Gang of Dragon was Toshihiro Nagoshi’s first game after his departure from Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio. Starring Ma Dong-seok (Train to Busan, Eternals, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach) the game appeared to share a lot of the same DNA as the Yakuza series—which Nagoshi was Executive Director. According to Bloomberg via Gamespot, Nagoshi Studios is “looking for funding partners, it has not reached any deals, and the current funding is due to run out in May.”
While it is incredibly unfortunate, this further marks a trend in the game industry of high-profile games being unceremoniously cancelled. Alongside all of Microsoft’s cuts—including the upcoming Perfect Dark reimagining—Highguard, which was surprised announced during The Game Awards 2025 finale was also recently shuttered, citing an inability to maintain player support.

It’s always intriguing to hear about developments in the gaming world, especially with a project as anticipated as Gang of D. The rumors certainly add a layer of excitement and curiosity. Looking forward to seeing how this unfolds!
