Square Enix has surprised players with a free PS5 demo for its highly anticipated upcoming RPG a month ahead of launch. Dragon Quest VII Reimagined is a promising remake of the 2000 PS1 exclusive that will launch on February 5, 2026.

The demo will release tomorrow, January 6, and players will get a prize for playing it. All those who play the demo will receive the “Day Off Dress” costume for Maribel that can be used in the full game.
Speaking of the full game, players can save demo progress and carry it over when Dragon Quest VII Reimagined launches. Square Enix has yet to detail what the demo entails, but given this information, we expect it to be the beginning of the game.
The demo’s announcement was surprise-dropped at the end of Dragon Quest VII Reimagined’s opening movie, which you can view below:
From the few hands-on previews we’ve read, it looks like fans are in for a treat.

The game will also release on Nintendo Switch & Switch 2, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. There will not be a PS4 version.
