Free New Cozy Platformer Announced For PC, PS5, and Xbox – Major Hit Potential

Every now and then, a free-to-play game takes the world by storm.

Fortnite, Overwatch, Genshin Impact, Marvel Rivals, Zenless Zone Zero, and Infinity Nikki are some of the key examples that spring to mind.

The upcoming, newly announced Totopia from JNG Studio could very well follow in their footsteps.

Totopia is rather uniquely a cosy party platformer, seemingly blending the aesthetics and life sim aspects of Animal Crossing with the imaginative platforming of Astro Bot.

It’s set to launch across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Totopia Is Launching A Playtest Next Month, Get Involved Early

“Welcome to Totopia, a land of infinite possibilities,” a press release stated.

“Customise your character, meet Atomons, the citizens of Totopia, befriend adorable creature companions, and begin exploring this diverse world!

“Will you engage in perilous platforming challenges to defeat the bosses that threaten Totopia’s existence? Or perhaps put your energy toward turning Pulse Avenue into a thriving, stylish district? However you want to play is up to you!”

There’s plenty to keep you busy in Totopia, both in solo and online play, from platforming to farming to becoming a “master barista”. You won’t be short of options.

Of course, as with every good cosy game, you can customise your character’s appearance, selecting from a wide array of clothing and accessory options.

This is a party game at its core so Totopia promises to feature a whopping 100-plus maps including “chaotic brawls”, “epic races”, “solo trials”, and more.

There’s also an interesting soulsync mechanic that seemingly allows you to bond with your friends to unlock secret abilities and tricks, so there’s a sense of power that comes with online play.

Atomons appear to be the game’s NPCs.

“Live your best life on Pulse Avenue! Strike up a convo with quirky Atomons, go fishing, farm your heart out, or build a dream base that’s 100% you. It’s all about the chill vibes,” a description reads.

So yes, there’s base building too. Totopia sure does seem to have ticked every box.

“Our do-it-all party hub has arrived! Whether you’re a party-game champ, a Bitrot-smashing hero, a master barista, or just a chill fisher, the stage is yours. Link up with the squad for chaotic game nights or rule the streets of Pulse Avenue—there are zero limits to your digital life!”

It goes without saying that as a free-to-play game, we should expect microtransactions in the final release, likely in the form of some kind of virtual currency.

While Totopia hasn’t unveiled a release date just yet, it has confirmed when we can expect to go hands-on with the game.

The Mic Check Playtest officially launches on 7 May. Unfortunately, the playtest is Steam only so console owners will have to wait a little bit longer compared to their PC counterparts.

You can head to the game’s Steam listing now to register your interest.
