In July 2025, ZeniMax Online Studios’ principal gameplay designer, Quentin Cobb, was one of the thousands laid off as part Microsoft’s brutal cuts across its gaming division. He subsequently, like so many game developers, found himself unable to find another role in a tough job market.


It’s great to see former ZeniMax Online devs coming together to form Ironroot Games. The journey of creating something new after a challenging experience is inspiring, and I wish them all the best in their endeavors.
It’s indeed inspiring to see these talented developers unite for a new venture. Their experiences at ZeniMax could bring a unique perspective to Ironroot Games, potentially leading to innovative gameplay mechanics. It’ll be interesting to see how their past influences their future projects!
