Forget Elder Scrolls 6, Xbox Exclusive To Launch 13 Years After Reveal

A forgotten Xbox exclusive has resurfaced after 13 years, which puts even The Elder Scrolls VI to shame.

The Elder Scrolls VI was announced by Bethesda at E3 2018, an event that no longer exists. During its reveal, we were treated to a cinematic trailer featuring a fly-over view of Tamriel, ending with the logo of the game.

However, this trailer that caused so much excitement had no representation of gameplay or even a release window. That being said, it would probably be fair to assume that the launch of The Elder Scrolls VI would arrive a few years after said trailer. Alas, that was not to be, because we’re still waiting.

At the time of writing, over seven years have passed, and since its original reveal, we’ve had no official public word from Bethesda as to when The Elder Scrolls VI will be released, let alone treating us to some long-awaited gameplay. I’m now assuming that it will be a next-gen title.

Yet, if you thought that The Elder Scrolls VI is taking its sweet time, it has nothing on Beyond Good and Evil 2. That game was first announced by Ubisoft in 2008, yes, 17 years ago!

As brought to our attention by Comicbook.com, there is another game that has given The Elder Scrolls VI a run for its money, albeit a game on a much smaller scale. That game in question is the Xbox console exclusive, Routine, announced in 2012.

It’s part of its routine, right?

“Routine is a first-person sci-fi horror title set on an abandoned lunar base designed around an 80s vision of the future,” reads the synopsis of the game developed by Lunar Software and published by Raw Fury.

“Curious exploration turns into a need for survival when a lunar base goes completely quiet. Searching for answers puts you face-to-face with an enemy who is certain the main threat is you. Discoveries lead to deeper unknowns, and the only way to go is forward.”

After waiting well over a decade for its arrival, revealed during a new trailer, Routine will launch on 4 December 2025. That’s assuming it suffers no delay, of course.

Powered by Unreal Engine 5, Routine is listed for PC, Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One. At the time of writing, there is no mention of a PlayStation and Nintendo Switch release. It is also listed for Xbox Game Pass.

To be notified of when a PlayStation or Nintendo Switch release might be announced, it could be worth following Lunar Software on Twitter. Hopefully, Routine will be worth the long wait.
