Last month, Heart Machine announced that they would be ending development on their roguelike follow-up to the seminal indie RPG Hyper Light Drifter, Hyper Light Breaker. As a result, as is far too common in the industry these days, a number of staff were laid off – including a writer on the yet-to-be released Possessor(s). As a result, a post cropped up on the Possessor(s)’s discussions page on Steam with some expressing discomfort at the idea of buying the game post-layoffs, prompting the game’s narrative director to explain why he (understandably) would still like it if you bought it.

It’s always tough to hear about layoffs in the gaming industry, especially when a project has so much potential. It’s great to see the narrative director still advocating for Possessor(s), highlighting the passion behind the game. Here’s hoping it finds a way to continue its journey!
I completely agree; layoffs can really impact everyone involved. It’s interesting to see how the narrative director is advocating for the game’s potential despite the challenges. It shows a strong commitment to the project and its vision, which can be inspiring for both the team and the fans.
I totally hear you on that! It’s fascinating how narrative direction can still thrive even during tough times. The way storytelling evolves in games like this can sometimes lead to unexpected creativity and depth, which may resonate with players even more profoundly.
