Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Sold Well on PC and PS5, Third Entry’s Development is Progressing Well

While there were initial concerns regarding sales figures for Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth when it first came out as a PS5 exclusive last year, the title’s release on PC has seemingly helped sales figures stabilise. In an interview with Automaton Media, director Naoki Hamaguchi went as far as to note that the game has been doing quite well in terms of sales on both PC and PS5.

In the same statement, Hamaguchi also went on to ensure fans of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy that the third game is still under development, and that the studio plans to make sure that it is of high quality.

“The second entry, FFVII Rebirth, has been doing very well on both PS5 and PC,” said Hamaguchi. “I know some fans have expressed concerns, but please rest assured, we’ll be able to deliver a proper, high-quality third installment.”

He also went on to note that development has been progressing at a good pace, and that quite a bit of the still-in-development third part is now playable. Development has progressed at a far enough point where, according to Hamaguchi, the vision and direction for the game have been “firmly set in pace,” and that the development team is now working around further refining it.

“Development is going extremely well, and the game is shaping up nicely,” he explained. “A lot of the content is already playable, and the game’s direction and form are firmly set in place. Right now, the team is united around refining everything.”

When the third part of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy does finally come out, it will very likely be a multiplatform release right from the get go. Square Enix had confirmed through a social media post earlier this months that all three games in the trilogy would be coming to all current-gen platforms.

This is in contrast to the first part of the trilogy; Final Fantasy 7 Remake was originally released for the PS4 before eventually getting its Intergrade upgrade and a PC release. Similarly, Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth was initially a PS5-exclusive before making its way on to PC.

Final Fantasy 7 Remake Intergrade is officially also making its way on to more platforms, with its upcoming January 22, 2026 release on Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. The upcoming port is also slated to get some unique accessibility features for players that might want to rush through its campaign. These features include options to get Constant Max HP, Constant Max MP, Constant Max Damage, Constant Max Gil, and even a simplified way to unlock Weapon Abilities, which involves simply using the ability once to then get access to it on other weapons as well.

The upcoming release also got a brand new trailer earlier this month, giving players that might not already be familiar with the seminal 1997 original or its critically-acclaimed remake a run down on the various factions in the story, as well as its primary setting of the city of Midgar.
