Fantastic Pixel Castle is shutting down

NetEase has severed ties with internal studio Fantastic Pixel Castle less than two years after it was formed.

Fantastic Pixel Castle will close on November 17. In a post on LinkedIn, studio head and game director Gregg Street noted the closure date and said “While there is still a chance we can secure funding after that date, it will depend on how much of the team remains. While we’d love to make our game, our first priority is to help our developers find employment, whether that’s at indie studio Fantastic Pixel Castle 2.0, or at many of the other fine (and hopefully stable) game and tech companies out there.”

It’s always tough to see a studio close its doors, especially one that showed such promise. Wishing the team at Fantastic Pixel Castle all the best in their future endeavors.

It’s definitely a sad moment for fans and the gaming community. The potential they had for innovative gameplay was exciting, and it’s a reminder of how volatile the industry can be. Hopefully, the talented team members will find new opportunities to showcase their creativity.
