Fallout 5 ‘Unsustainable’ Release Date Slammed By Gamers

Fallout 5 has an “unsustainable” release date, say fans of the series, and I get where they’re coming from.

If you were to ask a Bethesda fan what they’re favourite series is, there’s a good chance they will say either The Elder Scrolls or Fallout, perhaps even both. However, the topic of today’s story is for the post-apocalyptic RPG (which obviously rules out adventures in Tamriel).

Before Bethesda acquired the license, the Fallout series was already making a name for itself with the first two games arriving on PC in 1997 and 1998, respectively, before spawning sequels and spin-offs.

That being said, it’s probably fair to say that the series hit a massive upward trajectory when the first game under Bethesda, Fallout 3, was released in 2008. Some might say this is the best game in the entire series, and I would agree.

Speaking of Fallout 3, it looks like it will be getting an official remake, in a similar vein to The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered, which was released earlier this year. Yet, it’s worth keeping in mind that the Fallout 3 remaster hasn’t been officially announced.

The yet-to-be-announced Fallout 3 remaster aside, fans are still patiently waiting for news on Fallout 5. After all, the next post-apocalyptic adventure has been confirmed by Bethesda’s chief, Todd Howard.

Understandably, fans’ patience is wearing thin; after all, Fallout 5 is likely not to arrive until after The Elder Scrolls VI, which, by the way, despite being announced in 2018, still doesn’t have a release date.

So, at this point, it’s probably safe to assume that Fallout 5 will be a next-gen title, and perhaps the same can be said for The Elder Scrolls VI.

“Am I absurd for thinking 20 years between releases is unsustainable?” asked Redditor sonofloki13. “Every time I say something about it, I’m downvoted to hell. It has such a long development cycle, it’s almost comical.”

Fellow members on the thread were keen to weigh in their thoughts on when Fallout 5 might be released.

“Holy crap, Fallout 4 was 10 years ago,” exclaimed Yamfun, realising that the game was originally released in 2015.

“Most of the original fan base will be dead by Fallout 6,” joked anthrax9999, who might actually be speaking some truth.

“I think the issue is they got bogged down in Fallout 76, and the main team was working on Starfield,” suggested panderson1988.

Hopefully, Fallout 5 will arrive sooner rather than later, but we could be waiting a few more years, at least. We’ll keep you posted.

Absolutely, the passion really highlights how much the series means to its fans. It’s also worth noting that the long development times can sometimes lead to heightened expectations, which can create even more pressure on the developers. Balancing quality and timing is definitely a tricky challenge!

forgetting that a rushed release could compromise the quality we’ve come to expect from the Fallout series. Taking the time to develop the game properly could ultimately lead to a much richer experience for everyone.
