Fallout 4: Misery Island Is a Huge New Fan DLC, Free To Download

Fallout 4 players should be excited to jump into this excellent expansion, which adds a much-needed new area to the game.

While Fallout 76 has the benefit of being a live-service game, and as such can be updated with new areas often, Fallout 4 wasn’t so fortunate. Following the game’s launch only two new areas were added, Far Harbour and Nuka-World, both of which were fine DLCs with the latter often regarded as the better of the two.

Despite Fallout 4 still getting updates in the year of our Lord 2025 we’re yet to see another official expansion, and likely never will. Fans are desperate to capitalise on Bethesda’s mistake though and have made a variety of their own map-expansions that can be played for free right now.

The one that caught our eye today is called Misery Island- Isles Of New England and is available on NexusMods now.

Created by and uploaded by Tenhats and Shreddah4 the mod’s description reads: “Brand new World Space based on the real-life Misery islands, found just off the coast of Salem.

“Brought to life with a series of lore-friendly quests, Multiple settlements with immersive repairs, New Radio station, Random Encounters, Custom Weapons/Armor and much more. Featuring custom meshes, textures, sound effects, Music & animations.”

Sounds like a hefty expansion and one that’s perfect to play while you wait for the second season of the Fallout TV series coming next month.

What strikes me most about Misery Island is the sheer attention to detail both Tenhats and Shreddah4 have exhibited.

Some side-by-side screenshots were shared of the mod in action alongside the real-life structures and environments they were based on, and the resemblance is uncanny.

They did a really good job, and I’d urge you to give it a go if the Anniversary Edition update got you back into the game.

What’s on the horizon for Fallout?

Aside from the second series of the TV series on the way there’s currently a major update for Fallout 76 that ties into the live-action show.

Walton Goggins has reprised his role as The Ghoul for a new quest, taking place in the new area Burning Springs, based on real-life Ohio.

As for future Fallout games I’m afraid there’s nothing new to report as Bethesda’s main focus is still The Elder Scrolls VI, which doesn’t sound anywhere close to being finished as of yet.

You’re going to be waiting a long time for Fallout 5 I’m afraid.
