Evercade Nexus is their biggest retro handheld yet

While the Nintendos, Sonys and Microsofts of the world take many of the gaming headlines, one of the continually surprising and robust console makers out there is Evercade. This is a company who’ve made it their business to sustain retro gaming and bring back physical media, while pushing forward new technology in both the handheld and home console space. So, it was an especially great day in the gaming world when their latest handheld console, the Evercade Nexus, was announced. That’s today, by the way.

Coming out in October 2026, the Evercade Nexus is the biggest handheld the company have ever made, coming after the original Evercade, and then its updated replacement, the Evercade EXP. The key new introduction, not forgetting it’s bigger footprint, is the addition of dual analogue sticks, presumably as the Evercade team start to look towards more 3D-based retro titles. That starts with the included pack-in games, Banjo Kazooie and Banjo-Tooie, returning from their N64 hey-day in more than perfect condition. Both games have been optimised specifically for Evercade with performance and graphical improvements, twin-stick support with overhauled camera control, as well as new unlockable content and more. It sounds like this will be the best way to experience these classic games, ever.

The Evercade Nexus also brings with it a bunch of new features, including EverSync, which sees the Evercade team taking a leaf out of Nintendo’s GameShare book, and letting players share titles wirelessly across Nexus devices from only one cartridge. It’s a massively consumer-forward choice, and it makes the chance of playing retro multiplayer titles that much higher, without everyone having to have bought the same game.

Pre-orders for the Evercade Nexus have opened today, 1st of April, with the handheld and the include Banjo Kazooie double pack priced at a very reasonable £169.99 | $199.99 | €199.99. There was a special N64-flavoured version available for the first 2000 pre-orders, but unfortunately, they’ve already sold out!

Stay tuned for more from Evercade!
