Racing game fans will have to come to terms with this. Rebecka Coutaz, vice president and general manager of Battlefield Studios Europe, has set the tone for the future of Criterion Games.
Now fully focused on Battlefield, the studio will not be paying tribute to its racing franchises to celebrate its 30th anniversary. In fact, no new Need for Speed game is in development. Both that franchise and Burnout are now on hiatus for an indefinite period.
Coutaz even acknowledges their discontinuation, stating that Criterion is solely focused on Battlefield.
« We’re not here to talk about the past. We’re exclusively focused on Battlefield. »
