Elder Scrolls 6 release date is earlier than 2028 claims new rumour

In lieu of any official Elder Scrolls 6 news, fans are latching onto a new rumour that gives the game a specific new release date.

While fans of The Elder Scrolls have had the recent remaster of The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion to keep themselves occupied, the next entirely new entry – The Elder Scrolls 6 – remains elusive.

Some alleged details have leaked over the years and it’s now clear it’ll be a multiplatform launch (so no more Xbox exclusivity), but nothing official has been shared since that original 2018 announcement.

In the absence of any news from Bethesda, a new rumour has begun making that rounds that optimistically claims there’ll be a new trailer ‘soon’, that will unveil a 2027 launch window.

This comes courtesy of eXtas1s, who has made other Xbox related claims in the past. He was among the first to say Black Myth: Wukong’s Xbox port was not being held back by any sort of exclusivity deal with Sony; something other insiders backed him up on.

He’s also suggested several Xbox games will see Nintendo Switch 2 ports, such as Starfield and Microsoft Flight Simulator, and accurately said Elden Ring would be among the console’s initial line-up of third party ports. Perhaps most importantly, he was one of the first to report the existence of the Oblivion remaster.

In a recent video, he’s said that Microsoft and Bethesda are aiming to have The Elder Scrolls 6 out in late 2027, and that the people involved are confident it’ll make that target.

2027 isn’t too much of a stretch since another insider, Windows Central’s Jez Corden, said in July that he’s heard the game is already ‘quite playable’.

We also know enough progress has been made for Bethesda to hold a charity auction earlier this year, so one lucky fan can add themselves to the game as a background character.

Microsoft did previously say that The Elder Scrolls 6 won’t launch until 2028 at the earliest, but it’s entirely possible that development has progressed well enough for it to push the date up. Especially as getting it out the door so they can work on Fallout 5 is more of a priority now than it was in 2018.

At this rate, though, it’s likely The Elder Scrolls 6 will become one of the first games to launch for the PlayStation 6 and the next Xbox console since both are similarly expected to arrive in 2027, if not 2028.

Although given how expensive both consoles will likely be, with some speculating price tags of at least £1,000, Microsoft will want The Elder Scrolls 6 on current gen platforms (plus PC) as well, since that’s where most of the player-base will be.
