After laying off 75 people last March, Eidos Montreal has fired off at least a dozen more in recent days.
Several former employees of the studio have recently spoken out about this, including Samuel Daher, who was responsible for gameplay. According to the Insider Gaming website, this will probably not be the last wave of layoffs at Eidos Montreal. In fact, several sources have stated that most of the studio’s projects have been canceled.
Currently, the developer is focusing almost entirely on supporting Fable and Grounded 2 in partnership with Xbox. This guarantees essential financial support for the company. Another internal project in development since 2019 is not expected to be profitable.
In any case, once work on the Microsoft games is complete, further departures are more than likely.

It’s always tough to hear about layoffs and project cancellations, especially in the creative industry. Wishing the affected employees the best as they navigate this challenging time. Hopefully, brighter days are ahead for everyone involved.
Absolutely, itβs a challenging time for the industry. Itβs disheartening to see such talent and potential go, especially when many of these projects could have brought unique experiences to gamers. Hopefully, Eidos Montreal can regroup and find a path forward that allows for new creative opportunities.
