Eidos Montreal lays off 124 employees and loses the head of the studio

The wave of layoffs in the video game industry is far from over. This Monday, it’s been Eidos Montreal’s turn to announce dozens of departures.

On LinkedIn, Eidos Montreal announced the layoff of 124 employees. Additionally, the studio’s director, David Anfoss, is also leaving the company. He had been with the studio since April 2007 and had led it for nearly 13 years.

In its message, Eidos Montreal explains that these layoffs result “from evolving project needs and affect both production and support teams”. As always, the company praises the talent of those recently laid off and expresses its commitment to supporting them during this difficult time.

Finally, a transition plan is underway to replace Anfoss. It remains to be seen whether this situation will affect the development of the AAAA game built on Unreal Engine 5, which the studio appears to be working on.
