EA Sports FC 27 drops first gameplay video with Bellingham and a surprise cameo

The first gameplay trailer for EA Sports FC 27 has revealed a new gameplay mode, ‘community driven’ gameplay improvements, and an Ultimate Plus Edition you only have a month to pre-order.

After having already shared the cover art for the standard edition of EA Sports FC 27, confirming French footballer Kylian Mbappé as the cover star, EA has now revealed the first gameplay trailer as well as a release date.

As was previously leaked, EA Sports FC 27 will launch on September 25 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.

Just like previous years, though, you can start playing a week early on September 18 by purchasing the Ultimate Edition for £99.99 or the Ultimate Plus Edition for £139.99.

Yes, Ultimate Plus Edition is a real thing and an obvious attempt to wring some extra money out of diehard football fans. Aside from early access, it comes with extra content not contained in the normal Ultimate Edition, including ‘the most FC Points and Premium Passes.’

On top of that, this edition will only be available to pre-order for just over a month, starting today and ending on August 31. After that, it’s gone for good and only the standard and Ultimate Editions will be available.

You can find a full breakdown of what each edition includes on EA’s website. As for the new gameplay, the trailer only shows quick highlights, but it seems the biggest new draw is a ‘social football playground’ called The Grounds.

Described as ‘expanding the Clubs experience with casual, fast-paced kickabouts to top-tier competition,’ you’ll get to develop and customise your own player while receiving guidance from famous footballers, including Mbappé, Chloe Kelly, Paulo Dybala, and, perhaps most surprisingly of all, Alex Hunter.

That last one is teased at the end of the trailer like he’s appearing in Avengers: Doomsday and if you don’t recognise him, that’s because he’s not a real footballer. Alex Hunter is actually the fictional protagonist of the story mode from FIFA 17 and hasn’t made an appearance in EA’s football games since FIFA 20.

EA is also promising a rebuilt career transfer market where ‘player values are influenced by club buying power, player potential, ratings, and form to deliver greater realism’ and a Football Ultimate Team Gallery for you to curate your dream team of players past and present.

The actual gameplay will supposedly be tweaked and updated, although EA hasn’t gone into too much detail on that front. It describes the gameplay improvements as ‘community driven,’ highlighting examples such as ‘dynamic corners, stronger attacking awareness, and rebalanced AI defending.’

Additionally, while Mbappé is starring on both the standard and Ultimate Edition covers, he is joined on the latter by fellow Real Madrid player Jude Bellingham, who is clearly a favourite at EA as he previously starred on the standard edition covers of both EA Sports FC 25 and EA Sports FC 26.

‘Every time I’ve had the chance to be part of EA Sports FC, it’s been a special moment, and coming back for a third cover alongside Kylian is no different,’ says Bellingham.

‘I’m looking forward to fans getting stuck into FC 27, experiencing everything the game has to offer, and creating plenty of new memories along the way.’
