Dragon Quest VII Reimagined Review: the RPG remake gets great scores

This week, Square Enix has us go back to a veritable classic with Dragon Quest VII Reimagined. It will be available to play on February 3, 2026, in preview via the Deluxe Edition, and on February 5 for everyone else.

On Metacritic, Dragon Quest VII Reimagined has an average score of 80% on PS5 (29 reviews), 83% on Switch 2 (10 reviews), and 80% on PC (4 reviews). On OpenCritic, the score is 85% with 62 reviews. Of course, these may change over time.

Dragon Quest VII Reimagined still has a compelling story and plenty of content to sink your teeth into. This version also offers revamped puzzles, masterful art direction, customizable difficulty, a great dual-class system, and a superb soundtrack.

However, the formula ends up being fairly repetitive, the characters aren’t that engaging, and it all ends up being too accesible sometimes.
