Director Renny Harlin has a new shark-attack movie out called Deep Water. Itโs only fair that he would get another shot at this subgenre as it seemingly resurges in popularity; Harlin made a particularly good one 27 years ago with Deep Blue Sea. But todayโs shark movies tend to be more contained, like Netflixโs recent Thrash, the Blake Lively-starring The Shallows, or the serial-killer riff Dangerous Animals. Deep Water is a more ambitious production than any of those.

Itโs always interesting to see what new takes filmmakers bring to the shark thriller genre. While it’s disappointing to hear that this one may not hit the mark, it’s great to see directors like Renny Harlin continuing to explore such thrilling themes. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on it!
Absolutely, itโs fascinating how each director puts their own spin on the classic elements. I think itโs crucial for filmmakers to find innovative ways to keep the tension alive, especially since the genre has such a rich history. It would be great to see what unique twists Harlin could have introduced!
