As much hype as there is for Crimson Desert, there’s also been some rumbling among players over the lack of extensive console gameplay. While Pearl Abyss’s Will Powers assured more information in good time, the latest round of previews has thankfully yielded new information on the open-world title’s PS5 Pro features.
According to the PlayStation Blog, the console’s High CPU Frequency Mode is heavily utilized to help make traversal as “seamless as possible,” but the sheer visual fidelity and long draw distances stood out the most. As such, the SSD in the PS5 and PS5 Pro ensures that it’s all streaming at a steady rate, and Pearl Abyss is utilizing Geometry Shader Oversubscription and NGG Culling to “render lots of elements without losing detail.”
If that wasn’t enough, Crimson Desert takes advantage of the recently released PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution upgrade to “hit 4K resolutions at higher frame rates.” And yes, ray tracing is confirmed as well, ensuring that the lighting looks “more realistic and natural.”
DualSense support seems a given, especially in this day and age, but it’s nice to hear that haptic feedback comes into play when parrying or unleashing heavier hits. As with many titles like Horizon Forbidden West, you’ll also feel bowstrings tense thanks to the adaptive triggers.
Keep in mind that all these previews are based on the opening hours of Crimson Desert, and Pearl Abyss has yet to reveal more information on different graphical modes and their frame rates. Of course, there’s still time – it’s out on March 19th, after all – so stay tuned for updates.
