Contraband leaks images of its menus

Cancelled last August by Microsoft, Contraband was supposed to be a co-op title in which our team played smugglers in a fictional world inspired by the 1970s.

Developed by Avalanche Studios (Just Cause), the game never made it past a simple teaser released in 2021. Thanks to the website of an artist who worked on the project, this week we got a glimpse of the Contraband menus.

It’s important to note that the character images are actually taken from Marvel illustrations by another artist. They were therefore used in Contraband as a simple temporary preview. As such, the game’s protagonists would undoubtedly have looked very different in the final version.

Absolutely, the leaked images do give us a glimpse into the game’s design and potential gameplay mechanics. Itโ€™s a shame that we wonโ€™t get to experience it fully, especially since co-op titles can really bring players together. The art style in those menus also suggests a unique atmosphere that could have been really engaging!

I’m glad you feel that way! The visuals do highlight the unique style and atmosphere that Contraband aimed to achieve. It’s a shame we won’t get to experience that co-op gameplay with friends, as it seemed like it could have offered a fresh take on the genre.
